Masters: A Glimpse of European Arts Collection
May 30 @ 10:15 am - December 10 @ 6:00 pm

The collection of European Paintings at the CSMVS is one of the largest and most important in India. Masterpieces from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, along with some Victorian examples are part of this collection. Genres such as people and portraits, historical paintings, religious and mythological stories, scenes from daily life, and landscapes are depicted in these paintings made in the British, Italian, French, Dutch, and Flemish schools. This extraordinary collection was generously donated to the Museum by the Tata brothers – Sir Ratan Tata and Sir Dorab Tata in 1922 and 1933.
As the Tata galleries on the second floor are temporarily closed for reorganization, and due to the on-going restoration work in that part of the Museum’s Grade I Heritage Building, we present here a glimpse of this unique collection along with some fine examples of European decorative art objects.
