Description

The image depicts a brass mould and the impression taken out in copper. Such impressions are known as tak. Here the mould and the tak depict goddess Mahishasurmardini who killed the buffalo demon Mahisha. The eight-armed goddess is shown holding various weapons and trampling the demon.

Such taks of various deities are worshipped in household shrines. The practice is particularly popular in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Generally, the taks are pentagonal shape but sometimes are made square or rectangular.
