Paithani Sari
Description
An essential part of the Maharashtrian wedding, the paithani sari got its name after the Paithan town in Aurangabad, Maharashtra state. Paithan (old Pratishthan) was a well-known trade centre in ancient times. These saris are handwoven from very fine silk thread. The unique speciality of the paithani is its border and pallu that is generally in contrast with the sari's butidar or plain ground. The jari based pallu has a pattern woven in silk. A special dhoop-chav (light-shade) effect is achieved by bringing two different coloured threads together during the process of weaving.
