Description

Scientific name: Antigone antigone

IUCN status: Vulnerable

It is large non-migratory bird found in India. They stand up to a height around 5ft, and they are tallest flying bird in the world. They are found in northern and central part of India along with Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Australia. They are seen near different wetlands and agricultural field.
The population of this bird is reduced due to destruction of their habitat for human settlements, use of pesticides and hunting.
