Sri Padmanabhaswamy of Thiruvananthapuram
Description
Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. His temple is one of the 108 Vaishnavite Divyadeshams (Holy Abodes). Vishnu’s right hand is placed over a Shivalinga (Shiva in his phallic form). Sridevi-Lakshmi, the Goddess of prosperity and Bhudevi, the Goddess of the Earth, his two consorts, are by his side. Brahma emerges seated on a lotus that emanates from the navel of Padmanabhaswamy as he reclines on
the primal Sheshanaga, the king of serpents.
शेषनाग पर बैठे विष्णु, जिन्हें पद्मनाभस्वामी के नाम से जाना जाता है, तंजाऊर के शाही घराने के संरक्षक देवता हैं। यह मंदिर वैष्णव पंथ के १०८ प्रमुख ‘दिव्यदेशम्’ अर्थात देव-स्थलों में से एक है। विष्णु का दायां हाथ एक शिवलिंग पर रखा हुआ है। उनके साथ उनकी दो संगनियां समृद्धि की देवी श्रीदेवी-लक्ष्मी और पृथ्वी की देवी भूदेवी हैं। ब्रह्मा एक कमल पर बैठे है जो विष्णु की नाभि से उदित हो रहा है ।
