Vitthala
Description
The cult of Vithoba or Vitthala is popular in Karnataka and Maharashtra. The painting depicts Vitthala (incarnation of Krishna) standing on a brick with his hands resting on his hips. He is flanked by Tukaram (1608–1649), one of the most famous poet-saints from Maharashtra on his left and probably Kanhoba, Tukaram’s younger brother, on his right.
कर्नाटक और महाराष्ट्र में विठोबा या विट्ठल की पूजा बहुत प्रचलित है, जो भगवान कृष्ण का ही एक रूप है। इस कलाचित्र में विट्ठल कमर पर हाथ रखे ईंट पर खड़े दिखाई दे रहे हैं। उनके बगल में महाराष्ट्र के प्रमुख संत कवि तुकाराम (१६०८-१६ ४९) और संभवत: उनके छोटे भाई कान्होबा खड़े हैं।
