A Selection of Asian and European Art from the Tata Collection in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya

Description

Sir Dorabji Tata and Sir Ratan Tata, remarkable scions of India’s pioneering industrialist Jamsetji Tata, bequeathed their extensive art collection to the Museum. The Tata bequest formed the core of the Museum’s collection. This volume is the first comprehensive publication on the Tata collection in the Museum. It has a selection of 151 prized pieces extending in provenance from the Indian subcontinent to Japan and China in the east and to England and Europe in the west with articles from specialists in each field. The collection covers a variety of antiquities from Japan, China, Burma, Tibet, Nepal, Persia, Europe and of course India. The materials range from porcelain and glass to bronzes, textiles, arms, woodwork, lacquer work, jades and other precious stones and ivories. The first edition was released in 2010. The second print run with a new cover and an additional foreword was released in 2015.
