Jewels on the Crescent
Description
Published in 2002, Jewels on the Crescent is a definitive catalogue on the masterpieces from the Indian artefacts of the Museum. It gives us a glimpse of how the Museum was conceptualised and the development of each section of Indian art at the Museum. CSMVS has one of the best collections of miniature painting in the country today. It has a representative collection of objects in jade, wood, ivory, jewellery and textiles which highlight the rich crafts tradition of India. The museum houses beautiful arms in metal, decorated with damascene and enamel work on the hilts and scabbards. The initial collection of the decorative art objects formed a part of the Tata collection. The museum has an adequate collection of Nepalese and Tibetan artefacts belonging to important religious and artistic phases of both these regions.
