Preserve Your Rare Books The Natural Way
Description
India is blessed with an extraordinarily rich heritage. Many families, big and small institutes, temples, and libraries possess several objects of antiquity and having heritage value. Unfortunately, not all of them have been preserved well. The hazards of chemicals prescribed for conservation of antiquities are many and hence it would not be easy for an individual to slow down the process of deterioration or work on the preventive measures. On the other hand, it is obvious from the number of antiquities that have survived for centuries that people were well aware of various traditional conservational materials. These people adopted easily available, effective and non-toxic materials to preserve their artefacts. The use of easily available materials at the time may have remained as household knowledge and would have been easy to implement. This small booklet contains two study reports on the effectiveness of traditional conservation materials. The studies were carried out by the Museum jointly with the C. B. Patel Research Centre and the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai respectively.
